# Obento for agents

> Connect an AI agent to Obento over MCP, install the Obento skill, and put USDC on Base to work from code.

Obento is built to be used by agents as well as people. An agent can read the live rate and any position, and prepare deposits and withdrawals for its own wallet to sign. Obento never holds an agent's keys and never sends a transaction for it.

## Connect over MCP

Obento runs a [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) server at `https://obentoapp.com/mcp`. It needs no key or account, and the [MCP Registry](https://registry.modelcontextprotocol.io/v0/servers?search=com.obentoapp) lists it as `com.obentoapp/obento`.

| Tool | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| `vault_status` | Whether deposits are open, the rate after the fee, the share price, the ready cash and where the money is |
| `position` | What an address put in, took out, holds and earned, the fee in dollars, and its activity |
| `autopilot_journal` | Autopilot's moves, paid withdrawals and pauses in the last 30 days |
| `prepare_deposit` | The approve and deposit calls for an address and an amount, ready to sign |
| `prepare_withdrawal` | The approve and withdraw calls, and whether the USDC arrives at once or on Autopilot's next pass |
| `read_docs` | Any page of these docs as Markdown |

Every tool only reads. Pair the prepare tools with a wallet your agent controls, and send the calls in order on Base.

## Rules for agents

- Use Base mainnet, chain ID `8453`, and deposit and withdraw only through the gateway.
- Check that `vault_status` reports deposits open before you prepare a transaction.
- Agents tag their gateway calls with partner ID `2`; the prepare tools do this for you.
- Money in Obento is not a bank deposit and can lose value. Read [the risks](/docs/risks) before you deposit for someone else.
